After
attending the consultation with a counsellor, you may decide to
come for Ongoing
Counselling.
You will be given a slot at the same time, on the same day each
week with the same counsellor (although not necessarily the same
one you saw for your consultation). This slot will be yours for
as long as you decide to continue with counselling.
Counselling is
available no matter what your age, sexual orientation or marital
status. You can also attend counselling if you are single but
have a problem relating to a previous relationship or forming
new ones. You can attend with your partner or by yourself.
You may find
that one or two counselling sessions are enough to help you work
through your problems and concerns. Alternatively, you may find
that you wish to return for further sessions each week over a
few months. Your counsellor will help you to understand when the
counselling reaches its natural end and will sometimes suggest a
closure session to help you understand how far you have come
through your time at Relate.
Occasionally,
a further course of counselling may be recommended. This might
be Sex
Therapy,
where the relationship is generally good but there are further,
specific sexual issues which need to be addressed, or Family
Counselling,
which looks at the structure and issues surrounding your whole
family unit. Your counsellor will explain these options to you
and help you to decide which is the best route for you.
